How Much Does It Cost to Install a New HVAC System?
Are you in the market for a new HVAC system but aren’t sure what it may cost you? Our JD Service Now experts are here to walk you through the expenses you can expect based on a variety of different factors. Having an accurate estimate for an HVAC replacement can help you budget and provide insight into your expenses.
Type of HVAC System
One common factor that influences the cost of replacement is the type of system you currently have. There are three common types of systems:
1. Hybrid Systems
Hybrid systems bring together two different fuel sources, such as a gas or oil furnace and an electric heat pump. They provide more efficient heating and cooling and are particularly common in homes that are located in warmer climates. When the temperature drops below 40 degrees, your heating costs can skyrocket as your heat pump struggles to warm your home. For a 2,000 SQ FT home, the average price for replacement is around $8,500.
2. Split Systems
Split HVAC systems are one of the most common systems you’ll see in today’s homes. This system contains a cooling system that is typically placed outside the house and a heating system or furnace, that is usually located in the basement, or in warmer climates, placed in a closet. The average cost of a 14 SEER split system begins at around $7,500 but could be more if your home requires extensive ductwork.
3. Mini-Split System
Mini-split systems, or ductless systems, don’t require any ductwork and are placed in individual rooms that connect to an outdoor unit. The equipment costs for individual units can run at a higher cost. Depending on the size of your home and the number of individual units you want, the cost can range from $4,000 – $15,000.
Efficiency Rating
Depending on the efficiency level you want or need for your home, there will be an effect on the overall cost of your new HVAC system. The efficiency rating of your system is measured by SEER, Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Today’s systems SEER ratings range from 13-25. The higher the rating means the greater efficiency and lower energy bills. HVAC systems with higher SEER ratings will cost you more upfront for installation but can typically even out in the savings on your monthly utility bill.
Size of Your System
The correct size of your HVAC system is vital to the overall efficiency of your home. If you have moved into a new home recently and the system is incorrectly sized, this is the perfect opportunity to get the appropriate sized system installed. If your system is too small it will constantly work to keep your home comfortable, your utility bill will skyrocket, and the constant overworking will shorten the life of your unit. The size of your unit is one factor where cost will range but should not be a deciding factor.
These are just a few of the main factors that can influence the overall cost of the installation of a new HVAC system. There are still many other factors that may arise and can fluctuate and affect the overall cost like labor and level of ductwork.
